Formentera del Segura has been an eminently agrarian municipality. Most of its orchard is located north of the town center, which is accessed through a vast network of rural roads. The surface that constitutes this area exceeds 2 million m2. This orchard constitutes a humanized landscape since the population is distributed, in addition to the urban area, in a scattered rural habitat. A characteristic of the area is the plantations of different crops that make up a mosaic of shapes and colors, all of this bearing in mind a wide network of rural roads, irrigation networks and, as the main element, the Segura River. As far as crops are concerned, the orchard has undergone a transformation process in just 20 years, going from a domain of the primary sector to a current situation where this is the least representative and where the weight of the local economy falls in the secondary and tertiary sectors. It continues to be cultivated, especially citrus, fruits and vegetables, its fundamental use being agricultural use. Not only the garden has an agricultural use but also as a recreation, leisure and leisure area.
